Fitness and weight loss - both are achievable from the comfort of your home, without stepping out to the gym. The solution to your health problems is following an Ayurvedic Daily Ritual. Here are a few wellness tips, to get you on a path of overall inner and outer wellbeing.

Waking up daily at Sunrise: Mind Alignment

It is recommended to wake up with the rising of the sun, no matter the time of year. This is helps tune in with the rhythm of life set out by nature itself. It is most beneficial to start your day when there are loving (sattvic) qualities in nature that bring peace of mind and freshness to the senses. Though the time of sunrise varies according to the place and seasons; on an average, a ‘Vata’ person should get up about 6 a.m., Pitta person by 5:30 a.m., and ‘Kapha’ dominant by 4:30 a.m. Right after waking, become aware of your body from the top of your head to the soles of your feet. Be conscious of you whole body welcoming the new day full of optimism and positivity.

Yoga or Stretching: Mind and Body Alignment

We all know how important Yoga stretches and poses are. They set the right intention and wake up the body to begin its natural processes, strengthening muscles, the core, and even the mind. When you perform yoga or just stretching, you are to honouring your vessel (body) for the work that it will do on your behalf through the day. We rarely acknowledge how hard our body works for us, running all the systems from respiration to digestion non-stop. Bringing awareness and gratitude for your body will alone bring in improvements.

Clean the Face and Eyes: Eye Wellness

Fill the mouth with water, splash your face and eyes with cold water and rinse out your mouth. Mist Apply Rose Water around the eyes, and gently massage around the optical bone in a light movement from outside of the eye toward the nose and then through the eyebrows and just below on eye lids. Applying very light pressure you helps promote circulation, moving the lymph and inflammation. Blink your eyes 7 times and rotate your eyes in all directions. Dry the your face with a clean towel.

Proper Maintain Oral Hygiene & Clean the Tongue: Dental Wellness

It is important to take measures to prevent tooth and gum diseases, as they cause toxins in the mouth. These toxins can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. By adding antimicrobial herb such as Neem into your diet, you can deter infection. The surface of the tongue is also a breeding ground for bacteria that can cause infection in the teeth and gums and are often responsible for bad breath. Cleaning your tongue after brushing the teeth is part of a traditional Ayurvedic practice. The best tongue cleaners are made of copper or sterling steel. Sterling Silver tongue cleaners can be used by all but copper is most beneficial for kapha body type.

Drink Herbal Teas Throughout the Day: Internal System Wellness

Nasal Cleansing & Drops (Nasya): Nasal Wellness

Nasal irrigation is suggested for those prone to congestion, suffer from allergies or as a preventative measure during cold and flu season. When using a neti pot, first lean over your sink and tilt your head sideways, keeping your chin and forehead at the same level. Next, breathe gently with your mouth open and insert the neti pot spout in your upper nostril. This movement will cause the saline solution to drain out of your lower nostril. Next, repeat the steps above on for the other side too. 

With or without nasal cleansing, it is a good practice to put 3 to 5 drops of nasya oil into each nostril in the morning. This helps to lubricate the nose, clean the sinuses, and improve voice, vision, and mental clarity. Our nose is the door to the brain, so nose our nasal drops nourish prana and promote a clear mind.

Apply Oil to the Head & Body (Abhyanga): Skin Wellness

Rub warm oil over the head and body. Gentle, daily oil massage of the scalp using Brahmi based hair oils can bring happiness, as well as prevent headache, baldness, graying, and receding hairline.
